In recent weeks Candace Cameron Bure has been labeled all kinds of mean by Hollywood elitists whose moral compasses spin like whirling dervishes on meth.  Just because she supports real marriage.

Any actor with the last name “Cameron” is fair game in Hollyweird.  They’ve been representing Christianity fairly well for the last 30 years or so.  And they do it in the nicest, most charitable way possible given the vitriol they receive.

In other words, I’m not writing their press releases.

The most recent actor shedding crocodile tears over inclusivity is Neal Bledsoe, star of such blockbuster hits as, “The Winter Palace” (2021) and “Christmas at the Drive-In” (2022), both of which are on Great American Family.  Bure is the CCO of the same.

You could be forgiven for saying, “Neal who?  Wasn’t he the quarterback for the New England Patriots once upon a time?”

No.  That was Drew.  If we are comparing the NFL to acting, Neal is the QB on the practice squad.

He’s not exactly an A-lister and the only reason this thing is drawing headlines at Variety is: 1) it’s a slow news day or 2) they have an agreement with Bledsoe to help him get a gig.

Neal’s crocodile tears sound like this: “The recent comments made by leadership at Great American Family are hurtful, wrong and reflect an ideology that prioritizes judgment over love. I was raised as a Christian, and believe in the essential message of love and forgiveness. That said, I could never forgive myself for continuing my relationship with a network that actively chooses to exclude the LGBTQIA+ community.”

He was “raised as a Christian”, don’t ya know?  Apparently of the liberal\progressive stripe before it was cool.

Bledsoe’s—and so many others—response to the statement from Bure that the company is going to feature traditional marriage comes off as so much unvirtuous signaling, given the fact that Bledsoe has profited from that specific trope more than once.  Add the fact that he is not much more than a character actor selected for his eye candy appeal to the Hallmark demographic—middle aged moms—and you’ve exposed the hypocrisy altogether.

What LGBTQ+ roles has this guy EVER taken?

He was once an Old Spice model, for crying out loud.  They weren’t marketing to beta males.

To sum up, this is a low hanging opportunity for a guy whose biological clock is ticking to remind directors that he exists.  No more and no less.  And it’s working.  Heck, even I am writing about it.

My bill is in the mail, Neal.

The only question that remains is: will Great American Family stand with their CCO or will they cave?  If I were a betting man, I’d bet on them caving.

It’s not just that I have a skeptical streak a mile wide.  You don’t have to be a prophet.  With Disney planning their box office failures for the foreseeable future, the culture is all kinds of stupid.

I hope I am wrong.  Really.  I’m not even secretly hoping that they do cave so we can set up a Zoom call—we’re famous for slamming the Hallmark potboilers and targeting that demographic in Christian film.  When “traditional marriage” becomes the most outrageous thing you can say in Hollywood, I, for one, might reconsider.

LGBTQ+ sucks.  And if you want to invest in a company that is not afraid to say so, let us know.
